“Word, Sound and Power: The Lyrical Making of African Diaspora Futures” is a research project based at The Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages at the University of Oslo (ILOS). Studying is not something we only do on our own and within educational institutions, it is also something we do collectively when we meet, talk, discuss, and listen to music and poetry:
“Is there a way of being intellectual that isn’t social? When I think about the way we use the term ‘study,’ I think we are committed to the idea that study is what you do with other people. It’s talking and walking around with other people, working, dancing, suffering, some irreducible convergence of all three, held under the name of speculative practice” (Fred Moten)
Readings will start at 6pm and last for around 20 minutes each, followed by Sweet Talking DJs playing a mix of lovers rock, rocksteady, reggae disco, crossover soul and northern soul. Conversations and readings will be in both Norwegian and English. This event is open to all.
Time and Place: Storgata 36C, Gryte (Dampkjøkkenet), 20. November, 6 pm.
