De Neocosmo (c. 1120), authored by Honorius Augustodunesis (c. 1080-1150), is a short commentary on the creation story in Genesis that contains a chapter on the creation of the world from the viewpoint of the angels. This presentation argues that the notion of tempora aeterna (eternal times) – the temporality of the angels – comes to stand as both an image of heaven and as an ideal for monastic life in Honorius’ interpretation of the biblical creation narrative.

Anne Løddesøl is a MA student in European intellectual history and culture at the University of Oslo, and has been granted a research stay in Rome to continue the work on her thesis.
