While scaffolding wraps up our premises during the whole spring term of 2024, we thought it would be nice to show you how the story began, through documents in our historical archive.  The exhibition illustrates the ups and downs of the search for a suitable location for Norwegian students and researchers in Rome -- after the institute was first founded in 1959. It all started with an apartment at 209 Corso Vittorio Emanuele, followed by an unrealised opportunity to build a new house in Valle Giulia.  In the end, the Institute's Deputy Director Hjalmar Torp found a "villino" perfectly situated on the Gianicolo hill, and architect Christian Norberg-Schulz designed the extension that gave us the large rooftop terrace and what we dare say is Rome's finest view!

Thanks to IIIF technologies and collaboration with the American Academy in Rome Digital Humanities Center, the exhibition also displays historical images of the DniR building's site at different times.

Take a look and enjoy the many Gianicolo views!
