About the project

This project accelerates, streamlines, and consolidates digitization efforts at the Norwegian Institute in Rome and explores new ways to engage its historical archive.

Through three pilot studies tied to the institute’s early history and founder Hans Peter L’Orange, we will survey and digitize relevant materials and produce three digital stories

  1. a personal account from L’Orange’s Italian journey as recorded in his diaries
  2. a story of a landmark project in northern Italy that he directed
  3. a reconstruction of his scholarly networks revealed in annotated offprints

Purpose

The project will deliver a methodological workflow as a sustainable blueprint for future archival projects, enhancing the archive’s usability and stimulating research on this little‑known chapter in the history of the Faculty of Humanities (HF).
