The path for connection is: \\hf-depot\unitname\username-ekstra
Windows
This section of the guide can also be used by those who use Remote Desktop Connection against a Windows machine at the university.
- Go to This PC in Explorer. Under Network locations, right-click and select Add a network location from the menu:
- A wizard tells you that it will help you to connect different types of network drives. Click Next. Choose Choose a custom network location and then Next again. Write in \\hf-depot\ and choose the unit name from the list and click Browse:
In the popup window, navigate to the area (folder) that you want to connect and confirm with OK:
Give the connection to the network site a suitable name (You may drop the Samba version number):
Then click Next and Finish and the file area appears in Explorer.
MacOS
Connect network disk
- In Finder go to the menu Go and choose Connect to Server...
- In the field Server Address type: smb://hf-depot/enhetsnavn/brukernavn-ekstra.
Note! Remember to replace username with your own username and unit name with the institute or center you belong to.
- Type your username and password.

If a shortcut to the disk space doesn't appear automatically on your desktop, go to Finder → Preferences...
.
Under the tab General and Show these items on the desktop, activate Connected servers:
Set up automatic connection
Go to the Apple menu and select System Preferences... → Users & Groups. Choose your user account and the tab Login Items. Grab the shortcut you've made over and drag it into the window under Login Items.
Add color
Right-click on the shortcut on your desktop and choose a color under Tags... . It may be wise to differentiate between your home area and the research area you have obtained.
Get the shortcut in the sidebar in Finder
Go to Finder → Preferences... and the tab Sidebar and enable that your research disk is shown the sidebar.
Linux
In Ubuntu go to Files → +Other Locations. In the field Connect to Server type smb://hf-depot/enhet/brukernavn-ekstra and confirm with Connect:
