What tasks did you perform during your internship?
– I had the greatest opportunity to work as a video editor at the New York based international non-profit organization “Dress for Success Worldwide”. I was located in the Communication Department where I worked primarily with video editing and visual storytelling through editing interviews, conference materials, brand videos, and short-form content for their social media platforms across different formats. I was also involved in adapting visual materials to the organization’s new visual identity, as well as contributing to smaller graphic tasks. Beyond editing, I participated in idea development and discussions around campaigns centered on women empowerment, professional development, and representation.
How did you use skills you have acquired from your education at the Faculty of Humanities?
– As a master’s student in Screen Cultures, my background in visual communication and editing prepared the perfect base for a combination of narrative theory and practical work. As an ethical and political act of framing, my studies guided how I could turn my tasks into a social platform to represent the organization's vision the best. Feminist film theory was particularly relevant in a context dedicated to supporting women entering the workforce. Film and analytical theory have strengthened my awareness of representation, gaze, and voice, encouraging me to approach each story with thoughtfulness and responsibility.
What do you think is or was the greatest benefit from your internship?
– The most meaningful part of my internship was witnessing how audiovisual storytelling can serve as a tool for social change, as well as gaining a deeper understanding of how strategic communication and empathy intersect in practice. I also developed greater professional confidence by working closely with many accomplished individuals who inspired me to step outside my comfort zone. In addition, I built valuable connections within the film industry that I plan to maintain for future projects and I formed friendships that I believe will last a lifetime.
Anything else you would like to add?
– Be open and reflective as you grow into a new version of yourself. Trust that your perspective is valuable, and aim to make it visible in collaborative spaces. Don’t be afraid to say yes to exciting experiences, trying always leads to growth, and growth is always a win. Experience, experience and experience again!!
