PaBiQ (Norwegian)

The PaBiQ (Parents of Bilingual Children Questionnaire) is a standardized self-report form for parents, developed to map language exposure, language development, and the linguistic environment of bilingual children. The questionnaire is part of the LITMUS tools (Language Impairment Testing in Multilingual Settings) and was developed through COST Action IS0804. It is used both in research and clinical practice to assess children's language backgrounds and helps researchers distinguish between typical bilingual development and language impairment.

LEAP-Q (English)

The Language Experience and Proficiency Questionnaire (LEAP-Q) is a standardized self-report tool designed to assess individuals’ language history, usage, and proficiency across multiple languages. Developed for use in research involving bilinguals and multilinguals, the LEAP-Q captures detailed information about age of acquisition, language dominance, exposure, and context of use.

CDI I and II (Norwegian)

The MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories (CDI) is a validated and recognized parent-report tool developed to measure early language development in children. The tool enables researchers to systematically gather information about children's communicative abilities across languages and cultures.

  • CDI I is aimed at children aged approximately 8 to 18 months and focuses on the child’s comprehension and production of words, as well as the use of gestures such as pointing and waving. This version allows for early assessment of both receptive and expressive communicative abilities and provides a nuanced picture of prelinguistic and early linguistic development.
  • CDI II is designed for children aged approximately 16 to 30 months and focuses on expressive vocabulary, grammatical development, and early syntax. It includes detailed checklists of words the child uses and structures the child produces in spontaneous speech, providing researchers with data on the transition from single words to more complex utterances.

MAPLE (English)

The MAPLE (Multilingual Approach to Parent Language Exposure) questionnaire is a tool designed to assess language exposure in infants and young children growing up in multilingual environments. It is completed by caregivers and captures detailed information about the languages a child hears, from whom, and in what contexts. MAPLE is intended for researchers studying early language development, bilingualism, and related fields. Its structured format supports consistent, comparable data collection across studies.
