Gender and aesthetics; women's reading in the late 1700s; Robinsonades; historical novels; modernism; women's literature history, history writing; book history; fundamental problems in the humanities; digital humanities; translation studies.
I have often taught Gender and Aesthetics (LIT3461/3462/4461/4462); Ex fac (ExFac03-LIT) and Fundamental Problems in Literary Studies (LIT4000).
Higher education, employment history etc.
Mag.art. from the University of Bergen (1986) with a thesis on French novel aesthetics in the post-war period and dr. philos. from the University of Oslo (1995) with a thesis on historical novels. Associate Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Oslo from 1996, professor from 2015.
In 2009-2013, I participated in the European COST action IS 0901 Women Writers in History - Toward a New Understanding of European Literary Culture. At the same time, I was PI in the RCN financed research project ""Conflicts and negotiations: gender and value in art and aesthetics" (2010-2013).
2021-2024 I served as Head of research at the Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages. I have extensive experience from councils and boards in academia, including at the Centre for Gender Research (1996-2011), at ILOS (2009-2012), at the Faculty of Humanities Board (2015-2017) and at the UiO University Board (2017-21). I have also participated in several evaluation committees within Arts and Culture Norway.
