Following a trial phase in the fall term of 2023, "ENGLABS at the movies" was officially inaugurated by Aaron Ackerley and Stefan "Steve" Rabitsch in the fall term of 2024. Renamed and expanded in 2026, "PopCult! at the movies" is an informal format where we gather as a community of scholars of culture/history/literature/media/language to watch thematically relevant and engaging films together and then have a conversation/discussion about them. The screenings are designed to enhance students’ learning experience during the semester and also capitalize on our study programs as a locus communis for peers.

The movie screenings are not restricted to students who are enrolled in the specific courses they are thematically tied to—quite the contrary. They are open to anyone who has an interest in British and American culture/history and popular culture at large.

Light refreshments and snacks are provided at the screenings courtesy of the Department of Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages’ "faglig-sosiale midler" funds.
