About Literature, Cognition and Emotions
LCE – Centre for Literature, Cognition and Emotions was established at ILOS in 2024. Our long-standing interdisciplinary dialogue builds on a series of earlier collaboration formats.
The researcher group Literature, Cognition, and Emotions was established at ILOS in 2016. Since then, the group has created a strong and inspiring culture of interdisciplinary exchange, fostering discussions that span fields such as literary studies, linguistics, anthropology, cognitive science, and psychology. These discussions encompass the exploration of cutting-edge research, analysis of literary texts, and constructive feedback on the ongoing projects of our members.
LCE was a research and education initiative at the Faculty of Humanities for the period 2019-2023. LCE expanded its portfolio of interdisciplinary research projects, leading to new collaborations around creativity, memory and emotions in reading. We have organised seminars and conferences, developed teaching formats and digital teaching materials, as well as engaged in outreach activities.
The Centre for Literature, Cognition, and Emotions (LCE) continues this work as an interdisciplinary hub for the vibrant exchange of ideas surrounding literature and its profound impact on the human lifeworld, across memory, creativity and emotions, across history and across multiple languages and cultural contexts.
Karin Kukkonen served as founding director in 2024. In 2026, the director is Ylva Berger.
