In this Reading Group session, Anja Hartl will present her book project "The Politics of Shame in the Victorian Novel." We will read an excerpt from her theory chapter, which puts the spotlight on how to represent and analyse shame in narrative texts. This will be followed by a discussion of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel North and South.
This Reading Group session is also open to PhD-candidates at ILOS, who will be awarded 1 ECTS for their educational component upon fulfilling the following requirements: reading the assigned texts before the reading group session begins, participating in the discussions and completing the assignment set by the organiser.
