We will further discuss how Rosanvallon’s analytical framework relates to other theories of populism and to theories of elites. The seminar will further focus on Rosanvallon’s contribution to democratic theory of representation and to how that can apply to the analysis of populism today.

This seminar will analyse and discuss Pierre Rosanvallon’s book “The Populist Century: History, Theory, Critique”. The seminar will focus on Rosanvallon’s analysis and understanding of populism, and on how he relates this concept to that of the people and to representation.
