In the face of converging and alarming processes such as ecological turmoil, increasing energy demand and geopolitical tensions on natural resources, there is a dire need to identify and explore alternative pathways that demonstrate a resource-sensitive approach. Infrastructures that sustain basic provisioning systems, such as energy, food and mobility, are increasingly subject to and destabilised by tensions of this kind, which question their design, management and their very existence.

Several dichotomies governing contemporary debates on culture and technology— nature versus culture, human versus machine—were challenged and artistically explored in the Enlightenment period. A crucial but as yet unexplored aspect of Enlightenment thought was the concept of ‘the artificial’: lives, societies and even nature could be seen as artificial.

In the evolving landscape of archaeological research, the integration of digital tools and technologies has dramatically transformed how data is documented, analysed, structured, and shared from fieldwork through to long-term curation and reuse.

The central aim of normative political theory is to reach justified conclusions on what is morally right and wrong in the political sphere. This encompasses both broad questions about how (domestic and international) society should be organized, including the conditions of legitimacy of political institutions, and moral dimensions of more specific political issues, such as questions related to war, or distributions of social and economic goods.

Time and place: –, CUNP/FMSH, 54, boulevard Raspail 75006 Paris

The aim of the research project is to investigate what signals of diversity and DEI work organizations send to their employees, and how different groups of employees respond to such signals. The purpose of the seminar is to gather the project group and French partners to discuss research design and theoretical perspectives.

Several sociological studies have found that inequalities that are based on meritocratic principles and equality of opportunity, i.e. the principles that the distribution of benefits, resources and rewards should be based on achievement and not on ascription, are widely accepted across modern societies. At the same time, decades of research on social classes, elites, professions, educational and economic inequalities have concluded that these principles rarely apply. Through a combination of lectures and workshops, this PhD-course will focus both on historical and on recent theoretical and empirical contributions within this field of research.

The research project and research group Stakes of Democracy (University of Oslo) researches the democracy-crisis relation by approaching crises as key moments for understanding how democracies work and proceed. We investigate what is at stake in democracy in times of crises and start from the hypothesis that Trust, Nature, and Value are key matters of concern and at the core of that which is at stake.
