Academic interests
I am an art historian with a particular interest in the city of Rome across various historical periods, especially the Middle Ages, and in the interconnections between art and liturgy. From 2025 to 2028, my research at DNIR will explore the image-shaping power of liturgy by applying the interdisciplinary methods developed in my previous work to selected medieval and early modern church decorations in Rome. I have also examined and published on the impact of environmental factors on medieval visual cultures, late medieval art from the Czech lands, and the recontextualization of medieval artifacts in modern ritual practices in France.
Courses taught
Background
I hold a PhD in the History of Art from the University of Poitiers (France) and Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic), with a dissertation exploring the interplay between stational liturgy and monumental mosaic decorations in ninth-century Rome (2022). From 2023 to 2025, I was a postdoctoral fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Department of Liturgical Studies at the University of Regensburg (Germany), where my research focused on the history of the church of Santa Maria Maggiore.
I was a researcher on the MSCA-RISE Horizon Project Conques in the Global World (2021–2024). As part of this project, I held visiting scholar positions at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) and at the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute in Rome. I also carried out research in the Roman libraries of Sapienza University and the École française de Rome, and spent several months at the universities of Bologna, Milan, and Lausanne. Prior to my doctoral studies, I was an intern at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome – Max Planck Institute, the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max Planck Institute, and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.
