Purpose
The purpose of the midway evaluation is mainly to see how far the candidate has come with the project in the period between 50 and 70 % of the project period. Furthermore, it is important to get an external perspective on the work. And, hopefully, it will be helpful for the candidates to be focused on production of text from an early stage in the project period.
What will be assessed?
The chapters or articles that has been written up to the evaluation will be assessed. Both contents and structure will be commented upon.
Furthermore, it is relevant to look at the outline and synopsis for text yet to be written. If appropriate, sets of data can also undergo assessment.
Finally, a specified progress plan for the rest of the project period should be handed in for assessment.
The material up for evaluation must be presented for an external reader at least three weeks before the evaluation date itself.
Who assesses
An external expert well familiar with the candidate's field of work will assess the work.
How
The evaluation should have the form of discussion where spesific aspects of the drafts produced will be commented upon. The positive aspects of the texts will be emphasized, at the same time as the external reader will point out areas in need of improvement, and make suggestions on how to improve them.
Both the candidate and the supervisor will be present together with the external reader. Others may be invited.
Plan for the midway evaluation
The candidate explains the status of the project (max. 15 minutes)
The external reader presents the evaluation (max. 90 minutes). This part should be executed as an academic discussion between candidate, reader and supervisor.
Finally, the specified progress plan will be assessed.
