The regulations cover bilateral agreements and Erasmus+/Nordplus agreements used for student exchange at the faculty, departments and university centres.
For agreements regarding mandatory study periods abroad, the respective study programmes have their own regulations.
Application deadline and documentation
- Students must apply for exchange within the stipulated deadlines (currently 15 February and 15 September).
- The application must be registered in “Søknadsweb”, and all necessary documentation must be attached to the application by the application deadline.
- Incomplete applications will be rejected, in accordance with UiO's regulations on local admissions to the University of Oslo, §14-1 (lovdata.no) (in Norwegian).
General conditions for student exchange
- The student must have a valid right to study in a bachelor's, master's, or professional programme both at the time of application and at the time of departure.
- The exchange should be able to fit into the student's education plan and should normally not cause any delay in the study progress.
- If the student loses their study right before the departure date, the exchange offer will be withdrawn.
- The student must have completed a minimum of 30 ECTS credits at the time of application.
- The student must normally have earned credits in the last two years.
- The student must have a minimum grade average of C- (2.50, see numerical values per grade below).
Conditions for student exchange related to agreements and partner universities
- Some exchange agreements/partner universities have their own admission requirements, such as specific language requirements, completed credits, and grade averages.
Ranking of applicants for student exchange
- Applicants are ranked according to the average grade of passed courses completed at UiO by the application deadlines for exchange.
- For courses with Norwegian letter grades, the following numerical values will be used: grade A = numerical value 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1. The results are weighted according to the credit value of each course.
- In the event of a tie, places will be allocated by drawing lots.
- In case of competition for places, new applicants are given priority over applicants seeking to extend their stay.
- For agreements made on behalf of specific programmes/subjects, applicants from those programme/subject are given priority over other applicants, even if the other applicants have a higher grade average than the students in the programme/subject.
