Academic interests
Dr. Tapia’s research focuses on the development and application of advanced X-ray–based analytical techniques for cultural heritage. He is particularly interested in non-invasive 1D–3D confocal XRF, MA-XRF and MA-XRPD imaging, angular-resolved XRF, and synchrotron micro- and nano-XRF/XRD/XAS.
He works on the chemical, structural, and stratigraphic characterization of complex, layered artworks and prehistoric pigments, as well as on the instrumental and methodological innovations needed to study them.
Background
Dr. José Tapia Reguera is a physicist specializing in X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray–based analytical techniques applied to cultural heritage. He earned his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from PSL University (France, 2024), following a Master’s in Physics and Engineering from Paris-Saclay University and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
Before joining the ERC project POLYCHROME at the University of Oslo, he worked as a Research Fellow at the CNR-ISPC XRAYLab in Catania (Italy) and held a CNRS doctoral position at the C2RMF (Carrousel du Louvre, Paris). His research spans non-invasive elemental imaging, depth-resolved analysis of layered paintings, synchrotron nano-analysis, and the development of new XRF instrumentation.
