About the project

EcoArch seeks to understand the drivers of landscape change across Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, the Afrotropics, focusing on the last 6000 years.

The project will collect diverse types of data that will allow the reconstruction of changes in climate, vegetation and wildfires across an environmental gradient from tropical forest to desert ecosystems.

We will examine how human activities may have shaped vegetation changes independently from climate and natural disturbance, by looking at records at increasing distances from known archaeological sites. We will then use multivariate analytical techniques and modelling to explore the relationships between climate and human activities and their impacts.
