Does our attention have intrinsic value?

What kind of ethical and existential significance does attentive presence hold? And what might be lost in a culture that increasingly fragments and competes for our attention?

In this talk, philosopher Ying Yao explores one of the most fundamental questions in the philosophy of attention: whether attention is valuable in itself. Drawing on the profound reflections of Iris Murdoch and Simone Weil, she examines attention not merely as a cognitive resource or a means to productivity, but as a way of relating to the world, to others, and to ourselves.
