Abstract: I survey dominant trends in the wellbeing science and policy, tracing what I see as technocratic commitments in the measurement, methodology, and social organisation of knowledge. Alternative approaches are needed and they should include participatory constraints at all stages. I report on the recent efforts to realise these based on joint work with Mark Fabian (Warwick) and colleagues from the Bennett Institute for Public Policy.
