In this blog, Lu presented the recent policy background on rural water supply. By presenting the water use history of one village, she showed how villagers responded to tap water dysfunctioning during the cold snap and drought in the winter of 2020.

She argued that the centralised treatment of tap water cannot guarantee a stable supply of safe water in the face of uncertain and unusual weather fuelled by climate change. She concluded that greater flexibility in types of water supply and treatment is needed for rural residents to be able to work with the local effect of climate change.
