Early language development in Norwegian children (completed)

The project collected data on the early communicative development of Norwegian children from 8 to 36 months of age.

About the project

The data was collected using the Norwegian adaptation of "MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories" (CDI), an internationally recognized tool based on parent reporting of communicative behaviour.

CDI-reports are widely used in child language research internationally, and in clinical work with language-delayed children.

The Norwegian project was one of 47 similar projects in different languages using the CDI tool, and the first study where the reporting was done over the Internet.

The study was conducted by the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies at the University of Oslo.

Results

The collected data was used to establish norms for early lexical and grammatical development of Norwegian children.

Financing

The project was funded by the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oslo.

Duration

2008-2011.
