Contemplating the fact that fossil fuels are harmful to the environment and petroleum wells are about to run dry, many contemporary writers have delved into various forms of nostalgia in order to aesthetically process the changing energy situation. Furuseth’s subproject interrogates the paradoxical fusion of green nostalgia and petro-nostalgia in Norwegian 21st century literature, a fusion that perhaps can be summarized as “Anthropocene nostalgia” (cf. Salmose and Ishchenko 2024). Based on analyzes of works written by Carl Frode Tiller, Marit Eikemo, Sigbjørn Skåden, Anna Kleiva, and others, Furuseth argues that nostalgia is a psychological coping mechanism that might be useful even on a societal level when energy transition is at stake.
