Supervision of the Master's thesis

In the following programs, the assignment of a supervisor is mainly linked to specific courses in the master's program:

• Nordiske studium
  • Nordisk litteratur: NOR4430 – Faghistorie og forskningspraksis i nordisk litteraturvitenskap
  • Litteraturformidling: NOR4491 - Prosjektbeskrivelse i litteraturformidling
  • Retorikk og språklig kommunikasjon: RETKOM4110 – Metoder i tekst- og kommunikasjonsforskning

Haven't been assigned a supervisor through one of the mandatory courses?

If you have been on an exchange or have been exempted from the course on other grounds and, therefore, have not been assigned a supervisor, you can register your need via the web form.

In the following study programs, the assignment of a supervisor is done through a web form

• Nordiske studium
  • Nordisk språkvitenskap
  • Norsk som andrespråk
• Lingvistikk/Linguistics
• Ibsen studies
• Viking and Medieval Studies
• Viking and Medieval Norse studies
• Multilingualism

Submit your information through the Supervisor ILN form (nettskjema.no).

The deadline for submitting is 1 June for those who start working on their thesis in the autumn and 15 November for those who start working on their thesis in the spring.

How the assignment of a supervisor is carried out

Towards the end of the semester, the subject coordinator and academic community at your program will approve and distribute the projects, and you will receive notification of approval or assignment of a supervisor before the summer break. The department makes an overall assessment of supervision based on competence and available supervision resources.

Once the supervisory relationship is established, a supervision agreement must be filled out. The contract must be signed by the student and supervisor(s) and submitted to your study advisor, who will forward it. The agreement specifies the rights and obligations of both the supervisor and the student.

The signed contract must be submitted no later than September 1.

If the supervision does not work out

If the supervisory relationship is not satisfactory for any reason, the student or supervisor can request to be released from the supervision contract. A new supervisor must then be arranged with the department. Contact your study advisor if you need help with this.
