JEUX started the year with an introductory seminar for the project’s doctoral students, who took up their positions in January. Their doctoral projects and the book project of PI Karin Kukkonen were presented and discussed. The team also spent time planning activities for the year, such as new game sessions in the spring, a regular reading group, and an advanced PhD course around Madeleine de Scudéry’s bestseller Clélie, histoire romaine (1654-1660).

Academic Librarian Signe Marie Brandsæter gave the team an introduction to the old books collection of the University Library, as part of the day. Thanks to the generosity of Signe Brandsæter and Lars Lørdahl, we were also fortunate enough to see the collection for ourselves. There, in the depths of secret vaults not usually open to public, we could marvel at literary treasures from days bygone, including volumes written by Scudéry and other authors featured in the JEUX project.
