Principal research area
Europe and Scandinavia in the first Millennium. Historical archaeology, Old Norse religion, myth and materiality, visual representation and reception, cross-cultural interaction, migration.
Graduate supervision and training
I have supervised or co-supervised about twenty PhD-candidates. I have developed and headed the PhD-programme for Cultural Historical Studies at UiO 2005-09, and I have headed the PhD- committee 1999-2009. From 2006 to 09 and from 2013 I have been head of the Nordic Graduate School in Archaeology and from 2013 head of the graduate programme for archaeology, UiO.
