Academic interests

I am an economic historian and social scientist of work and quality of life, with a focus on the effects of technology. My publications have covered topics including technological unemployment, the construction of the first system to measure job quality in the past, and the incentives for innovation in the Industrial Revolution. At IAKH, I am the Principal Investigator of the Norwegian Research Council Project "Technological Change, Labor Representation, and Job Quality: A Comparative Historical Analysis, c. 1830–1980".

Background

I have an MSc and DPhil in Economic History from the University of Oxford, and was PI of the Young CAS project "Work and Wellbeing in History" from 2023–2024. I am also a Research Associate of the Cambridge Group for the History of Population and Social Structure.
