Cicero’s reception in Norwegian translation from 1814 to now: presentation of the corpus with examples

In the seminar I present a bibliography of published translations of Cicero into Norwegian from 1814 (chosen as a symbolic year in the country’s modern political and cultural history) until now, discuss the corpus in the light of Cicero’s modern reception and the sociology of translation, and analyze a few examples.

The paper is work in progress for a projected article for Noleks (Norsk oversetterleksikon). The article will be in Norwegian, but at the seminar I present the material in English.

Tor Ivar Østmoe is senior lecturer in Latin at IFIKK.
