At the beginning of the Iron age, the rise of the city in central Italy marks the beginning of a huge social and cultural transformation which will have a deep impact in the whole history of the Mediterranean basin. The lecture will be the occasion to discuss the archaeological evidence and the models of interpretation of this phase.

Gabriele Cifani is Professor at the University of Tor Vergata, Rome. His research interests include Roman architecture, landscape archaeology, and the ancient economy.

The event is co-organised by the Ancient Mediterranean research group (IAKH) and the Classics Seminar (IFIKK).

The event is open to the public, and all interested parties are cordially invited to attend. A Zoom link will be provided via the Classics Seminar mailing list. If you would like to subscribe to the list (or present at the seminar), please get in touch with Tor Ivar Østmoe. Following the presentation, we will gather at Café Eckers for drinks and further informal discussions. Everyone is welcome to join (please note that expenses are not covered by the seminar).
