After an introduction to the Herculaneum library, charred by the eruption of Mons Vesuvius in 79 AD, this seminar will present ongoing research conducted within the framework of the LACUNA project, which focuses on the theological papyri of Philodemus. Particular attention will be devoted to new readings emerging from work in progress toward a new edition of his work On Gods, Book 1, last edited by Hermann Diels in 1916.

Marzia D’Angelo is a Researcher in Papyrology (FICP-01/C) at the Department of Humanities, University of Naples Federico II.

The event is open to the public, and all interested parties are cordially invited to attend. A Zoom link will be provided via the Classics Seminar mailing list. If you would like to subscribe to the list (or present at the seminar), please get in touch with Tor Ivar Østmoe. Following the presentation, we will gather at Café Eckers for drinks and further informal discussions. Everyone is welcome to join (please note that expenses are not covered by the seminar).
