Project panel at the Design History Society Annual Conference in Brno

The deXmat team has spent an inspiring few days at the Design History Society Annual Conference in Brno. This year's iteration of the conference was dedicated to the theme Design in an Age of Uncertainty. The event provided an excellent opportunity for us to present our project collectively.

We were excited that the conference conveners accepted our proposal for a joint panel presenting work in progress from the project. Elín Margot Ármannsdóttir took the floor first, with her paper "Aluminium, the Recipe for Never-Ending Consumption: Analysis of the Construction of a Material Identity in Interwar Norway". Kjetil Fallan followed suit with his paper "Taking Stock for Sustainable Design: The World Resources Inventory". Mark Thomas Young rounded off with his paper "Artifact Metabolisms: The Material Flows of an iPhone". The ensuing Q&A turned into a lively and inspiring discussion, motivating us to continue our work. Many thanks to the conveners, the audience, and the panel chair, the inimitable Maria Göransdotter (Umeå University).
