deXmat postdoc Mark Thomas Young has guest edited a double special issue of Techné: Research in Philosophy and Technology on the topic of maintenance (Vol 29 No 2&3 2025). In his introductory article, 'Technology Over Time: Philosophical Perspectives on Maintenance', Mark examines the range of practices by which we keep things going over time and explores how the recent movement towards studying practices of maintenance and repair in philosophy of technology yields new perspectives on design, circularity and material flows.

New article: 'Groundwork: Connecting Design, Materials, and Landscapes'. The extraction of materials has immense impact on landscapes, and this text aims to explicate the role of design in this dynamic. Available as Open Access, the article is published in Resistance: A Journal of Radical Environmental Humanities.
Published in the Winter 2025 issue of Design Issues, this article is something of a position paper for the deXmat project. In 'Designing is Mining: Historicizing Material Ecologies of Design', Kjetil Fallan argues for closer scrutiny of material flows in design history. Oh, and it's Open Access!
Kjetil Fallan has written an essay on the value of wood as a design material for the catalog to the exhibition The Scandinavian Home: Art and Identity, 1880-1920, curated by Patricia G. Berman and Michelle Facos. The exhibition will open at The Frick Pittsburgh in September 2025, and subsequently be shown in Seattle and New York. The book is available now, though!
