Dr. Abdelrazek-Alsiefy will explore the multifaceted meanings of Egyptian Muslim women's dress in modern and postcolonial Egypt, analyzing clothing styles as social, political, and ideological symbols that reflect shifting perspectives on Western modernity and claimed authentic Egyptian values.

Additionally, she will examine how fashion can serve as a feminist statement while addressing the influence of legal regulations and cultural boundaries in contemporary Egypt. The talk challenges the simplistic binary of the "modest, oppressed traditional Muslim woman" versus the "modern Western woman," providing deeper insights into the intersections of faith, identity, and modern values.

Dr. Amany Abdelrazek-Alsiefy is a writer and lecturer at Humboldt University's Centre for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies in Berlin. With a Master's in Anglophone Literature and Cultural Studies from Potsdam University (2015) and a Doctorate from the Free University of Berlin (2022), her research spans gender studies, postcolonial literature, and fashion theories. She is currently writing a book on representations of the masculine body in North African men's fiction.
