Two Iraqis rebuilding their lives in the United States after the Gulf War struggle with memory, trauma, and the burden of exile. As their stories converge, Antoon crafts a moving meditation on displacement, identity, and the afterlives of war.
About the club
Al-Ard Book Club brings together readers from different backgrounds to read, share, and discuss works of Arabic literature that explore the intersections of environmental disruption, memory, displacement, and care for the land. We focus on close reading and conversation, and welcome all viewpoints, disciplines, and linguistic backgrounds.
Al-Ard Book Club is organized as part of the activities of the al-ARD research group at the Department of Culture, Religion, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (IKOS), University of Oslo. The group conducts research on environmental care in the Middle East region. See: https://www.hf.uio.no/ikos/english/research/groups/al-ard/
