The invitation is open to everyone interested in literature, environment, and everyday approaches to the land. No prior expertise is required, but participants are expected to come having read the whole book (Arabic editions and translations both welcome).
The meeting will take the form of a guided and relaxed discussion focused on passages of the book that resonated with participants.
More information about the book is available here.
About the club
Al-Ard Book Club brings together readers from different backgrounds to read, share, and discuss works of Arabic literature that explore the intersections of environmental disruption, literature and care for the land. We focus on close reading and conversation. All viewpoints and linguistic backgrounds are welcome.
Al-Ard Book Club is organized as part of the activities of the Al Ard research group at the Department of Culture, Religion, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (IKOS), University of Oslo. For more about the group’s research on environmental care in the Middle East region, see: https://www.hf.uio.no/ikos/english/research/groups/al-ard/
