Language comprehension in 2-year olds

Eye-tracking in the lab

About the project

In this PhD-project we are interested in 2-year old children's comprehension of language. To investigate this we use eye-tracking technology to measure where on a computer screen the child looks while hearing different (child friendly) sentences.

Who can participate in the study?

For this study we are looking for 2-year old's that exclusively or almost exclusively  speak Norwegian (at least 80%), and that do not have any known language, sight or hearing impediments.

What does participation entail?

Testing takes place in the Socio-cognitive lab at Henrik Wergelands hus, University of Oslo. The session consists of three eye-tracking experiments, two of which includes looking at pictures while hearing sentences, and one where the child is shown a series of short videos. The parent will follow the child at all times, and the whole session is expected to take about 30 minutes. Testing is possible both weekdays and weekends, depending on what suits you.

To make the testing more exciting, the child will be given a treasure map on which they mark their progress after each part of the experiment. After finishing the child will receive a small price as a thank you for participating.
