The ecology of human vocal learning: A child network approach

Child's feet, toy marimba

About the project

We want to investigate children's social networks and early language learning in infants aged 11 and 18 months. These are important periods for language development, and in this study we are interested in investigating how the child's environment, such as relationships and playing, can have an impact on the child's language development.

Who can participate in the study?

We are looking for parents from Østlandet with infants aged 11 to 18 months for this study. It's important that these parents exclusively use Norwegian while communicating with their infants. Your data will be kept confidential, and participating in the study is entirely your choice, with no repercussions if you decide to withdraw at any point.

What does participation entail?

Both parents will make two separate 20-30 minute audio recordings at home, during their individual play time with the infant. Before the recordings, both parents fill out an electronic questionnaire regarding the infant’s environment. All activities take place at home, and guidance is provided via Zoom by research assistants. You can coordinate with the research team to schedule participation.

As a token of our appreciation for your participation, you will receive a gift card of a small price.

How do I register?

To sign up for this study, please email us at yurikaa@uio.no and lucao@uio.no. Our research team will guide you through the process and provide further instructions to get started. Your participation is greatly valued, and we look forward to your involvement in our research.
