Eye-tracking

The Socio-Cognitive Lab offers several eye-tracking systems for research with different participant groups, both in the lab and in off-site settings.

Eye-tracking Rooms

Child eye-tracking room (rooms 431 and 429)

The child eye-tracking room (431) is equipped with an EyeLink 1000+ system configured for remote eye-tracking with children. The setup includes a screen mounted on a movable arm. An adjacent welcome area (429), equipped with children’s toys, allows child participants and accompanying adults to become comfortable before testing.

Adult eye-tracking room (room 440)

The adult eye-tracking room is equipped with an EyeLink 1000+ system configured for head-stabilised recordings using a chin rest. This setup is particularly suitable for studies requiring highly precise measurements, such as reading experiments.

For information about reserving the rooms, see Booking rooms.

Eye-tracking equipment

The lab has two EyeLink 1000+ stationary eye-trackers: one configured for children and one for adults. The system supports sampling rates of up to 2000 Hz in head-stabilised mode and up to 1000 Hz in remote mode. Its high spatial and temporal precision makes the EyeLink 1000+ well suited to studies of reading, visual attention, and language processing. The system can also be synchronised with the lab’s Brain Products EEG system.

The lab has several licences for SR Research Experiment Builder and Data Viewer software.

The EyeLink Portable Duo is a portable system with sampling rates of up to 2000 Hz. It is available with a dedicated laptop and travel case for data collection outside the lab.

Pupil Labs Neon eye-tracking glasses

The lab has two pairs of Pupil Labs Neon eye-tracking glasses, which record at 200 Hz and are suitable for mobile and field-based research. One pair has interchangeable lenses for participants who require vision correction.

SMI RED 250

The SMI RED 250 Mobile is a portable remote binocular eye-tracker with a sampling rate of 250 Hz. It can be used both in the lab and off-site. The lab has licences for SMI Experiment Center and BeGaze software. Please note that SMI is no longer in operation, and user support is therefore limited.
