CPS announces MA Scholarships

We are happy to announce 1-3 MA scholarships of NOK 20,000 for students at the University of Oslo who are writing a MA thesis within CPS's research areas.

About

Centre for Philosophy and the Sciences (CPS) is announcing 1-3 MA scholarships of NOK 20,000 for students at the University of Oslo who are writing a MA thesis within CPS's research areas, and who would like to be affiliated with the centre. CPS works at the intersection of philosophy and other sciences and has a special focus on interdisciplinary philosophy that brings in elements from or that contributes to other sciences. Researchers affiliated with CPS work with philosophy and life sciences, experimental linguistics/philosophy of language, philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of physics, philosophy that interacts with cognitive sciences and neuroscience, philosophy of medicine and bioethics. CPS aims to facilitate interaction between philosophy and other sciences and would like to promote this by awarding MA scholarships. Read more about CPS on our website.

Who can apply?

MA students at the University of Oslo who write a master's thesis at the intersection of philosophy and other sciences, especially those mentioned above. The applicant may come from fields other than philosophy if philosophical questions play a central role in the master's thesis.

How to apply?

Application deadline: December 22, 2021.

The application must include:

• Information about name, address, telephone, e-mail and place of study

• Updated CV

• Grade transcript from the University

• Confirmation from the supervisor that you have been admitted to the master's program and are writing / will be writing a relevant master's thesis

• A brief project description that includes the title, description of the topic, relevant literature/theory and method, as well as a progress plan. Max 1500 words. The project's relevance for CPS must be justified.

What is expected?

Scholarship recipients commit to writing and submitting a master's thesis. They are expected to contribute to the research environment at CPS, for example by participating in the centre's seminars, workshops, lectures and the like. Scholarship recipients will be invited to present their work at one of CPS's events.
