Reykjavík Presentations

At the University of Iceland, Wanda Marcussen will examine how communities relied on Oslo Fjord fisheries during the devastating famine years of 1740-1743, while Ada Arendt will present on Nordic environmental microhistories.

Uppsala Conference

The Uppsala presentations will focus heavily on Little Ice Age research and climate-society interactions. Dominik Collet will discuss the Little Ice Age as a boundary object, and Wanda Marcussen will connect climate anomalies to the North Norwegian witch trials of the 17th century.

Ingar Stene, collaborating with Eirik Ballo, will present an interdisciplinary re-examination of Little Ice Age dynamics in early modern Norway. Additional presentations include Johanna Conterio's work on early 20th-century microbial medicine in Eurasia and Ingar Mørkestøl Gundersen's analysis of climate and society in 6th and 18th-century Norway. Johanna Conterio will also chair a book lounge discussing Anna Mazanik's "Sanitizing Moscow: Waste, Animals, and Urban Health in Late Imperial Russia."
