Academic interests
My research interests are material culture, decorative arts and early modern global art history. I am particularly invested in the ways in which objects have travelled across geographical and temporal boundaries and interacted with people's social lives. Whether it is a chair, a handkerchief, or an itchy scratcher - the stories that global objects tell, from those who extract the raw materials needed for the making to the artisan, to the consumer, can offer a broad picture of an era's ideas about society, family, and so on.
The title of my PhD research is Transcultural Exchange of Amber in Early Modern Eurasia. This project will explore amber's journey across Europe and Asia from the interdisciplinary perspective of material culture in relation to ecological approaches and the context of early modern global trade networks within the framework of art history.
