Academic interests
My interests include Latin language and grammar, as well as the use of Latin after the Classical period. I have mainly been working with the Latin literature of Medieval Ireland, but my work also concerns the use of Latin in the modern period.
In my Master’s thesis, I explored the relationship between the Irish-language text Immram Maíle Dúin and the Latin Navigatio Brendani, a project which plays into my more general interests in the relationship between Latin and vernaculars, particularly Irish.
Doctoral project
My research concerns historiographical texts in Latin written by Irish Catholics in the seventeenth century. These constitute a large text corpus which has been relatively neglected in earlier research. In part, I compare the Latin text with better-studied Irish-language materials. Specifically, I am interested in exploring how early Irish history is presented, and how this relates to the political and sociocultural developments of the seventeenth century.
Background
I have a BA and MPhil in Classical languages from UiO, where I have also studied Irish philology. Additionally, I have been working as researcher on the project New Signs of Antiquity, headed by prof. Han Lamers (UiO). In 2024, I worked as lecturer in Latin at IFIKK.
