Academic interests
I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the interdisciplinary research project Modeling Human Happiness. My main research interests are in ancient ethics (particularly Plato), virtue ethics, and the philosophy of happiness and well-being.
Some recent work includes "Deceptive Pleasure in Plato's Republic", Archiv fuer Geschichte der Philosophie (2025) and "Problems with the Life of Pleasure: the Genesis Argument in Plato's Philebus", Journal of the History of Philosophy (2021).
Background
In 2022 I received my PhD in philosophy (with a minor in psychology) from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. During my PhD, I was also affiliated with the University of Oxford, the University of Oslo, and Columbia University.
My dissertation Plato on Pleasure and Illusion examined the Platonic proposal that pleasure is ethically problematic because it is intimately bound up with illusion and deception. I was supervised by Tamer Nawar (Barcelona) and Lodi Nauta (Groningen)
and examined by Thomas Johansen (Oslo), Jessica Moss (New York University), Jan Opsomer (Leuven), Katja Vogt (Columbia University) and James Warren (Cambridge ).
