Cobalt is considered a critical mineral in the energy transition. This excursion to Blaafarveværket cobalt mine invites participants to explore the complex histories, figurations, and practices surrounding cobalt extraction and chemical processing.

During the visit, artist Helena Sanders will share her artistic-research project Kobold and the Unemployment Line. Archivists at Blaafarveværket will also present materials related to their recent publication Of Goblins and Gods.

Participants will additionally have the opportunity to write for Issue 5 of the multimodal publication Errant Elements, on the theme of “the speculative.”

The day begins at Oslo S at 9:00 AM. Lunch will be available for purchase at the museum café. The group will return to Oslo by 7:30 PM.

There are 2–3 remaining funded spots available. Additional participants are welcome to join if self-funded. The estimated cost for self-funded participants is approximately 1000 NOK.
