Who we are
The Oslo Center for Environmental Humanities (OCEH) is a platform for interdisciplinary, humanities-led environmental research, funded from 2024 to the end of 2028 by the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oslo.
Our aim is to generate new research, new perspectives and new approaches that can engage directly and creatively with the complex, multidimensional problems of the environmental crisis.
Our work builds on the Oslo School of Environmental Humanities (OSEH), a previous strategic initiative funded by the University of Oslo from 2019 to 2023.
What we do
We support the growth of environmental humanities at the University of Oslo (and beyond) in a variety of ways, including by:
- funding and hosting state-of-the-art, humanities-led environmental research collaborations
- organizing a wide variety of research events, both on our own and in collaboration with partners in Oslo and elsewhere
- providing a permanent dedicated Lab for the environmental humanities research community at the University of Oslo
- convening an early career network for environmental humanities researchers, which organizes academic toolkit events focused on relevant career skills
- hosting visiting scholars from around the world, at all career stages
- maintaining a database of environmental humanities projects, scholars and research groups at the University of Oslo,
- curating feeds of relevant events both in the humanities faculty and elsewhere at the University
- collaborating with a range of local and international partners, stakeholders and collectives
- and much else besides
Check out our get involved page and get in touch. We are always happy to hear from people who are interested in what we do.
