Andreas Ervik (b. 1987) is a PhD fellow at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo. His research project examines Digital Diversions, the aspects of digital living that diverts our attention: virtuality, play, stupidity, cuteness and humor. Approached through evolution and systems thoery, the distractions are also considered as divergent, as bifurcating lines of development. The diversions are analyzed not as emerging with digitality, modernity, or even humanity, but are traced to dynamics of evolutionary differentiation into microbes, plants, fungi, mammals and human social groups.

Ervik has a Master degree in Aesthetics (University of Oslo) and a Bachelor degree in Journalism (Volda University College). Ervik is also an artist, with work exhibited in among others New York, London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Vienna, and Oslo.
