About the seminar
- The seminar explores how media, technology, and apps are not only objects from which individuals seek to disconnect, but also measures to facilitate disconnection. The discussion will address design considerations, self-help discourse, and critical debates on the commodification of disconnection.
- Veysel Bozan, a recent PhD graduate from Cardiff University with expertise in Marxist media studies, focuses on the politics of disconnection. His starting point is the recent publication, The Politics of Disconnective Media: Unraveling the Materiality of Discourses on Disconnectivity, co-authored with Emiliano Treré.
- Yukun You, PhD student, University of Oslo, discusses disconnection apps on Google Play, combining data from the app store, app publishers, and users. Yukun has recently published another article on app-related disconnection: Stay focused and grow a Forest: The design and paradoxes of gamified digital disconnection
The time and date for the seminar is January 22, 1400-1500 (Norwegian time)
