Overview
The MIDI room features a simple AV system for on-screen audio and video, a set of B&W hi-fi speakers, and a few monitor lines for routing audio from student desks to the B&W speakers. Most of the operations are handled through the AV rack just behind the teacher's desk. Here is an overview of what is included in the rack.

Each student desk is equipped with a Behringer UMC202 audio interface, a condenser mic, and a MIDI keyboard. The output of every interface is connected to one of the two Behringer monitor lines in the front AV rack. These are called DM lines (direct monitoring). DM lines 1-8 are in "MON1", and 9-12 are in "MON2". Below is a diagram that demonstrates the mapping between student tables and DM lines.

How to connect to the AV system (audio and video)
The MIDI Room studio is easy to use. With only a few steps, you should be able to manage the system perfectly.
First, connect your laptop to the USB-C cable on the teacher's desk to get the laptop image on the projector screen. Remember to turn on the projector. The projector is controlled by the Scaler box in the AV rack and is pre-programmed to behave correctly. So, if there are any issues with the video, turn off/on the scaler on/off using the big red switch in the rack.
You can play sound directly from the USB-C or from the mini-jack cable usually located on the teaching desk. To change the audio source, select the appropriate input using the big dial on the Sony amplifier.

How to listen to student desks on front speakers (DM lines)
Start by sending sound out of a Behringer interface on a student desk. Next, unmute the correct input on the Behringer monitor line in the AV rack associated with the student DM number. The DM numbers are labeled on top of the monitor lines and on the audio interfaces themselves, for convenience.

Raise the channel volume and main output volume on the monitor lines to the middle (straight up). The main volume is the knob on the far right of the modules. Now you should see light on the LED displays.
Finally, depending on whether the sound is going to MON1 or MON2, set the correct input source on the Sony amplifier.
Trouble?
If you are experiencing any issues with either audio or video, try first to switch the AV rack off/on using the big red button in the rack. Check also the physical connection and make sure the fault is not with your machine. Finally, contact the department engineer og IT services at UiO.
