  • A Copy of a Flemish transportable cembalo with one manual and to registers, after Fred Bettenhausen

Room 440 is equipped with:

  • Steinway grand piano

Maintenance and climate

Pianos and many other acoustic wooden instruments require consistent temperature and humidity levels in order to stay tuned and to maintain their structural quality. Most of the grand pianos at IMV have LifeSaver climate systems, devices that are attached underneath the instruments that regulate the humidity. However, these devices must be watered regularly. The Steinway in room 440 has this climate system installed.

The Harpsichord and hammer piano in room 437 cannot have LifeSaver systems, so we have to maintain the climate in these rooms in another way. To maintain the temperature, we have installed two Glamox Gen 3 WiFI heating ovens near the windows. The temperature in the rooms should stay a consistent 23 degrees all year round. In summer, when the temperature is often greater than 23, the ovens will turn off automatically due to a built-in sensor. Unfortunately, we cannot control the ovens via WiFi because Eduroam does not allow this.

The humidity is also managed in the room via a Philips ... TBA
