Academic interests
In my position as a postdoctoral fellow at the NORN project (Norwegian Romantic Nationalisms), led by Ellen Rees, I examine ideas related to the concepts of nation, culture, and race in Norwegian literature and literary history. I am particularly interested in how nationalist ideology and rhetoric contribute to narratives about Norwegian culture, identity, and canon, as well as how such constructions affect representations of the Sami and national minorities. Both digital reading methods and more traditional close reading approaches are diploid in these investigations.
In my previous research, I have focused on the relationship between nature and human beings in Scandinavian literature aimed at adults as well as children. I have, among other things, contributed to developing ecocritical and postcolonial perspectives on Scandinavian literature from the first half of the 20th century and built a database of plants in Scandinavian picturebooks for children from the early 20th century until the 2020s.
